
There is a huge range of holiday activities to take part in on the Capricorn Coast. This region is a great Queensland holiday destination for family holidays, international travelers, interstate travelers, couples holidays and more.
The major tourist drawcard in this region is Australia’s popular Great Keppel Island, with its pristine beaches, national park with some of Queensland’s best snorkeling and diving locations as well some great fishing and boating destinations as well. Being part of the Great Barrier Reef, there is a magnitude of water based activities to enjoy at this Central Queensland holiday destination on the coast. Another popular option for the adventurous traveler is 4WD and beach holidays. You can visit the local Byfield State forest and travel along the beach to the headland overlooking Corio Bay. With beach access, abundant bird life and the lush rainforest, the Byfield State Forest and adjoining Byfield Conservation Park are great for a day trip in the Yeppoon area. The Byfield National Park stretches over 15,000ha with gigantic sand dunes, some reaching as far as 5 to 6km inland.
Also only a short drive away are the Capricorn Caves, a spectacular system of above ground caves in a limestone ridge. This is definite must do when visiting the Capricorn Coast; you definitely need to take a look at Cathedral Cove while you are there. There are some great day tours available at the caves that are easy walking, with wheelchair access available as well. The local township of Yeppoon is also close by, taking around 10-15 minutes by car, here you will find a selection of shops and restaurants, with a brand new coffee club right on the esplanade. There is also a new supermarket where you can stock up on all your essentials and some great arts and crafts galleries and souvenir shops to browse through as well.
Emu Park is the closest township to Kinka Beach, about a 5 minute drive and here you can also stock up on necessities or visit one of the local pubs, restaurants or cafes, such as the Pine Beach Hotel. And while you’re there you should take the time out to enjoy the expansive view of the coast from the famous Singing Ship Lookout dedicated to Captain Cook or the historic museum for a trip down memory lane.
Another great holiday activity you can take part in whilst in Yeppoon is a trip to the Koorana Crocodile Farm, which is a working crocodile farm that is open to the public. The Koorana Crocodile Farm was Queensland’s first commercial crocodile farm and offers a great way for visitors to get an up close look at one of Australia’s oldest and most intriguing creatures. There a public tours and spotlight dinner tours, you can even watch the crocodiles hatching if you’re lucky.
And another one for the to do list is a visit to one of the more popular, family destinations in Yeppoon, the Cooberie Wildlife Park, where you can cuddle a koala, play with the bird life and even hand feed the friendly kangaroos. For the brave few you can also hold a crocodile, a snake or a lizard as well. There are more than 350 interesting animals, across 85 different species at this wildlife park near Yeppoon, making it the perfect day trip for the whole family.
